11-Year-Old Dies After Fireworks Incident, Indiana Police Say

The boy died on the way to the hospital after he was seriously injured in connection with fireworks, state police said.

MOUNT VERNON, IN — An 11-year-old from Indiana died after a fireworks incident over the holiday weekend, according to police.

Camrynn Ray McMichael, of Mount Vernon, died on the way to the hospital after emergency personnel were called about 9:45 p.m. Sunday to the 900 block of North Canal Street in response to a child who was seriously injured in connection with fireworks, state police said.

The boy’s mother told WEHT that Camrynn loved sports and his little sister, was on the honor roll and would soon start junior high school.

State and Mount Vernon police are investigating the incident with the Posey County coroner, authorities said.

Nine people suffered fireworks-related deaths in 2021 and 26 people died in connection with fireworks in 2020, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
