Evansville is a place like no other. And whether you grew up here, recently moved to the area or you’re just an occasional visitor, you know that Evansville has its own special traditions and history that make it so unique.

A few things to know:

  • Evansville has a rich history that dates back to prehistoric times, with ancient Native American cultures, French and British settlements, and the emergence of the city as a hub for transportation, industry, and culture in the 19th and 20th centuries. You can explore this heritage by visiting landmarks like Angel Mounds State Historic Site, the Evansville Museum of Arts, History & Science, and the Reitz Home Museum.
  • Evansville is home to some unique and delicious local foods, such as the brain sandwich, a deep-fried calf brain served on bread with mustard, onions and pickles, from Hilltop Inn or the legendary pizza at Turoni's. You can also find craft breweries, artisanal coffee shops and farmers markets that showcase the best of the region's flavors.
  • Evansville boasts a lively arts and culture scene, with several theaters, music venues, galleries, and festivals throughout the year. You can catch a show at the historic Victory Theatre or the Ford Center, attend the WNIN Jazz Fest, or explore the local art scene at the Arts Council of Southwestern Indiana or the Haynie's Corner Arts District.
  • Did you know that Evansville is home to one of the nation's largest street festivals? The West Side Nut Club Fall Festival is held every October and draws over 200,000 people to the city. The festival features over 100 food booths, carnival rides, live entertainment, and more – making it a must-see event.
  • Evansville has a rich baseball history. The city was home to the Evansville Triplets, a minor league team that played from 1970 to 1984. Many notable players, including Hall of Famer Bert Blyleven, played for the Triplets. Today, baseball fans can catch a game at Bosse Field, which was built in 1915 and is one of the oldest ballparks in the country.
