The move follows AAR’s acquisition of facilities in North Carolina and Florida, and a law firm is probing whether the company gave workers enough notice under federal layoff rules.

2. Indianapolis EMS sees surge in cold-weather-related emergencies (wrtv.com) — Indianapolis EMS crews are seeing a big jump in cold-related emergencies, especially among people without reliable shelter, and they’re urging residents to bundle up and know hypothermia symptoms. Medics recommend dressing in layers, using warming centers, and calling 211 to find shelter options. They stress that even seemingly mild temperatures with wind can quickly become dangerous for anyone stuck outside.

3. How New Year's Eve fireworks can impact veterans with PTSD (wishtv.com) — Indianapolis residents planning New Year’s Eve fireworks are reminded that they’re only permitted from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m., and that the noise can be especially hard on veterans with PTSD. A local veteran describes how blasts trigger combat memories, while IMPD urges neighbors to be mindful. Officials advise calling 311 for noise complaints and 911 only for emergencies.

4. IMPD: Southwest Indianapolis shooting leaves victim in critical condition (wthr.com) — A man is in critical condition after being shot Tuesday night at a home on Abbey Dell Drive in Camby, just southwest of Indianapolis. IMPD officers responded around 10:30 p.m., detained a person of interest, and say the disturbance between two people appears to be an isolated incident as the investigation continues.

5. YATVAC: Students in Indy Peace Leaders program earn while promoting peace (wishtv.com) — Indianapolis students at Arsenal Tech, Warren Central, Belzer, and Longfellow are earning stipends while training as “Indy Peace Leaders” to reduce youth violence and heal from trauma.
