UI’s enrollment chief told faculty the school wants to scrap rolling admissions for a fixed schedule and make standardized test scores more important again, though any ACT/SAT requirement would likely need Board of Regents approval.
   

2. Iowa City school board considers stricter policy around cellphone use in schools (thegazette.com) — Iowa City school leaders are weighing a stricter, bell-to-bell cellphone ban that could affect all middle and high schoolers, and possibly elementary students, as soon as next school year. With violations still common despite an existing policy, board members argue tighter rules are needed to protect learning time and say schools can still handle parent emergencies without student phones on hand.

City of Iowa City offers tips for those leaving town for winter break (1630kcjj.com) — If you’re leaving Iowa City for winter break, the City is urging you to move cars off the street, prevent frozen pipes, arrange snow shoveling, and secure your home. These steps can help you avoid tickets, burst pipes, fines, and potential theft while you’re away.
   

4. Suspect in illicit massage business case accused of tampering with witness (1630kcjj.com) — An Iowa City woman already charged in connection with an alleged illicit massage business now faces a new felony count of witness tampering after police say she repeatedly tried to influence a victim’s testimony. Iowa City officers previously raided Paradise Spa locations on 1st Avenue and Broadway Street, and a judge has now ordered her not to contact the victim while multiple serious felony charges move forward.
   

5. Philip Klett making transition from Center Point-Urbana girls' basketball program to boys' (thegazette.com) — High school hoops fans will notice Iowa City Liberty mentioned in a regional roundup, where junior guard Jerimiah Washpun exploded for 40 points in the Lightning’s season opener, though Liberty still fell to North Scott.
