Iowa City nonprofit says third party payment platform has failed to transfer funds (1630kcjj.com) — Iowa City Foreign Relations Council says a third-party platform, Flipcause, has failed to transfer about $6,500 in donations the group relies on. The issue is part of a nationwide problem that’s prompted California to order Flipcause to cease operations. The Iowa City nonprofit has switched to a new online system and is still accepting physical donations while investigations proceed.
   

2. CommUnity Food Bank asks for donations, volunteers for holiday meal distribution (kcrg.com) — Iowa City’s CommUnity Crisis Services and Food Bank is urgently seeking donations and volunteers for its long-running Project Holiday meal program as more local families struggle with food costs. With demand expected to top 1,500 households this year, staff say lingering impacts from SNAP changes and higher living expenses are pushing many Iowa City neighbors to rely on the food bank.
   

3. DJ Jimmy Jim reflects on years of music and community in Iowa City (dailyiowan.com) — A 70-year-old DJ known as Jimmy Jim is reflecting on his long-running role in Iowa City’s downtown bar scene after Brothers Bar & Grill dropped him from its marquee Thursday mug club nights. Regulars say his absence changes the feel of Thursdays, though some patrons don’t notice a big difference. Jimmy Jim plans to keep spinning at venues around Iowa City as long as he can.
   

4. Waterloo man's toy drive brings holiday joy to Iowa City kids (kwwl.com) — A Waterloo man’s massive holiday toy drive is headed straight to Iowa City, delivering more than 3,300 toys, gift cards, and donations to families at the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital and the Ronald McDonald House. Inspired by his son’s cancer battle years ago, Paul “Woody” Woodward now runs year-round fundraisers and is already aiming to help even more Iowa City-area kids next year.
   

5. Cindy Mapel (thenews-ia.com) — Services are set next week for Riverside resident Cindy Mapel, who was born in Iowa City and maintained close family ties here. The 68-year-old is remembered for her long career at Bankers Advertising/Tru-Art, love of Hawkeye sports, and devotion to family, with visitation, Mass, burial, and a celebration of life scheduled in Riverside and Lone Tree.
