For one local senior, a recent gig was more than a routine holiday performance. Jim Pfeffer reunited with his band Conga Jim and the Coconuts to play for the family holiday party at Morningside Place, an Anthem Memory Care community where he resides.

It was a chance for the 70-year-old conga player to express himself and to share his passion with friends and family at the community located at 6921 W. 81st St., Overland Park.

“Our residents are energized by music. Listening, playing and reacting to music all have great benefits for those with memory loss,” said Sara Coss, life engagement director for Morningside Place. “It’s important to remind residents experiencing dementia of joyful memories of the past.”
