Lexington UPS Facility Explosion Caused By Acetylene Tank: Report

LEXINGTON, KY — Police and firefighters are responding to a "large explosion" in Lexington. A truck and trailer containing an acetylene tank exploded at a UPS freight facility on Blue Sky Parkway, fire Battalion Chief Jason told the Lexington Herald-Leader.

The building was evacuated and six people had to be taken for observation, the fire department tweeted.

"Fire damage from the explosion was minimal, most of the damage being to the walls and roof of the building," the department tweeted Wednesday morning.

Fire officials say there's no evidence the blast was anything other than accidental. Everyone has been accounted for.

"We will remain on the scene for several hours investigating and making sure the area is safe," the fire department tweeted.

The injured were "extremely lucky" they weren't hurt more severely, Wells told the newspaper. At least two people suffered burns and possible concussions.

Residents are asked to stay away from the area.
