Court of Appeals slams Lexington judge for dismissing murder case, orders new prosecution (wkyt.com) — A Kentucky appeals court has reinstated a murder case stemming from a 2020 fatal crash on Leestown Road in Lexington, ruling that a Fayette Circuit judge wrongly threw out the indictment. The case now heads back to Fayette Circuit Court for prosecution before a different judge, meaning the victim’s family and local jurors will again play a central role in deciding what happens next.
   

2. Local organizations react to educational funding loss (wpsdlocal6.com) — A Lexington-based education nonprofit, the Prichard Committee, has been told its federal Full Service Community Schools grant will end December 31, threatening support for programs in 40 schools across 20 Kentucky districts. Leaders say they’re scrambling to clarify concerns with Washington as local students risk losing services like vision care, transportation help, and other non-academic supports that remove barriers to learning.
   

3. ‘There's light up there as there's light down here': The tale behind Lexington Catholic's light display (fox56news.com) — A Lexington Catholic High School senior has transformed the campus with thousands of Christmas lights to honor beloved former chaplain Father Norman Fischer, who died in 2024. Supported by local businesses and staff, the display celebrates his joyful spirit and helps raise awareness for a fund that opens Lexington Catholic’s doors to underserved students.
   

4. 'It fills my heart': Free coats and books given to families in need (lex18.com) — Families in Lexington found warmth and encouragement at First Baptist Church Bracktown, where volunteers handed out free new coats, gloves, and diverse children’s books. The annual Believing in Forever coat drive, led by Devine Carama, also honors his late daughter Kamaria by promoting literacy and representation.
