Rockholds Fugitive Tries To Run Over Troopers With ATV, Gets Shot: Cops

Officers chased Billy Barnhill for miles into woods. One officer walked into the woods fired when Barnhill rode at him, authorities said.

ROCKHOLDS , KY — A Kentucky state trooper shot a fugitive from Rockholds who tried to run the trooper over in an all-terrain vehicle, authorities said.

State police and Whitley County sheriff's deputies found Billy Barnhill, 31, described in a release as a "wanted fugitive," on an ATV Tuesday afternoon, local news outlets reported. As officers approached Barnhill tried to run over several officers, police said. Officers chased him for several miles on KY-26 into woods. One officer walked into the woods to find Barnhill, who rode at him, at which point the officer fired.

Barnhill was treated at the University of Kentucky Medical Center. No officers were hurt.
