How Much Do You Know About Louisville?
Every town has its traditions. Check out these fun facts about what makes Louisville so special.

Louisville is a place like no other. And whether you grew up here, recently moved to the area or you’re just an occasional visitor, you know that Louisville has its own special traditions and history that make it so unique.
A few things to know:
- Did you know that Louisville is home to the world-famous Kentucky Derby? This annual event, held on the first Saturday in May, is one of the most exciting horse races in the world and attracts visitors from all over. But the city offers much more than just the Derby. You can visit the Kentucky Derby Museum year-round and learn about the history of the race, or visit Churchill Downs for a behind-the-scenes tour.
- Louisville is a foodie's paradise. Did you know that the city is the birthplace of the famous "Hot Brown" sandwich? This delicious open-faced sandwich, invented in the 1920s, is made with turkey, bacon, Mornay sauce and cheese and is a must-try when visiting the city. But there are many other culinary delights to explore in Louisville, from the city's thriving bourbon and beer scene to its many unique restaurants.
- Louisville has a rich cultural history, with a variety of museums and landmarks to explore. Did you know that the Muhammad Ali Center, located in the heart of downtown Louisville, honors the life and legacy of the legendary boxer and activist? Or that the historic Old Louisville neighborhood is one of the largest preserved Victorian neighborhoods in the country, with about 1,200 acres of stunning architecture to explore?
- Louisville is a city of parks and outdoor spaces, with over 120 parks to explore. Did you know that Cherokee Park, designed by renowned landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted, is one of the city's most popular parks, offering hiking and biking trails, a scenic loop road and stunning views of the city skyline? You can also visit Waterfront Park, located along the banks of the Ohio River, for concerts, festivals and outdoor events throughout the year.
- If you're a fan of bourbon, then you're in luck: Louisville is located right in the heart of Kentucky's bourbon country. Did you know that the city is home to many famous bourbon distilleries, including Angel’s Envy, Stitzel-Weller Distillery and Evan Williams Bourbon Experience? You can take a tour of the distilleries, sample some of their best bourbons and learn about the history and art of bourbon-making.
