1. Derby Festival names official poster artist for 2026 (spectrumnews1.com) — A Louisville-based artist, designer and educator, Shae Goodlett, has been chosen as the Kentucky Derby Festival’s Official Poster Artist for 2026, putting a local creative voice at the center of next year’s celebrations. His work, rooted in years of Louisville ties, will appear on festival merchandise, with the new poster set to be unveiled in February.
   

2. USPS mail delays once again plaguing Louisville just before the holidays (wlky.com) — Holiday-season mail delays are once again snarling deliveries across Louisville, leaving residents waiting on critical medications and small businesses scrambling as packages sit “in limbo” at local USPS facilities. Congressman Morgan McGarvey is pressing the postmaster general, arguing weather isn’t the main culprit and demanding fixes for ongoing staffing and equipment problems at the Louisville Processing & Distribution Center.
   

3. Jefferson County sheriff launches new strategy to boost courthouse safety in Louisville (wdrb.com) — Louisville’s new Jefferson County Sheriff David James is launching a Judicial Threat Assessment Center to better spot and address threats against judges, staff, and the public at local courthouses. The unit will repurpose existing detectives to flag credible threats early, coordinate with prosecutors and mental health professionals, and intervene before situations escalate into violence.
   

4. Vote to consider rezoning Givaudan property passes Louisville Metro Council (wave3.com) — Louisville Metro Council has voted to ask the planning commission to consider rezoning the former Givaudan factory site in Clifton from industrial to a use better suited for nearby homes. After deadly explosions in 2003 and last November, neighbors urged council members to prioritize safety and push for a less hazardous future for the property.
   

5. Nonprofit pays off Louisville Gold Star family's mortgage ahead of Christmas (whas11.com) — A Louisville Gold Star family just had their home mortgage completely paid off by the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, easing a major financial burden before Christmas. The gift honors the service and memory of U.S. Army Sergeant First Class Orin Dunham Jr., who served 26 years and died from service-connected heart disease.
