LOUISVILLE, KY — Mage outpaced the field of 18 thoroughbreds to win the 149th Kentucky Derby. The colt ridden by Javier Castellano and trained by Gustavo Delgado crushed the competition. In a nail-biting two-minute race, Two Phils led the pack for most of the race, only to be overtaken in the final strides.
Mage is now only two races away from possibly claiming the Triple Crown title. In addition to adding this title to their pedigree, the derby winner will be taking home the $3 million purse.
While horse racing may be the main event at Churchill Downs, fashion took front and center per usual. Guests in attendance wore fascinating fascinators and drank mint juleps, marking another memorable Run for the Roses.
