The Postal Service says demand will be high, so locals are urged to register online in advance if they want to be part of this hometown tribute to Ali’s global impact.

2. St. X announces plan for new multimillion-dollar football complex (courier-journal.com) — Saint Xavier High School in Louisville has begun building a nearly $9 million football and wrestling complex that should be ready by next school year. Funded entirely through philanthropy, the 11,000-square-foot facility will add new locker rooms, meeting spaces, and offices, plus major upgrades to the outdoor stadium, without raising tuition or cutting programs for families.

3. Louisville nonprofit races to secure shelter approval before freezing weather arrives (whas11.com) — Louisville nonprofits are scrambling to get city approval to open extreme weather shelters as temperatures are expected to plunge near zero this weekend, leaving about 1,800 unhoused residents at risk. One group, Exodus Family Ministries in Shively, has a new facility ready but is still navigating Louisville Metro’s codes and fire-safety requirements, while officials urge organizations to apply immediately so doors can legally stay open during dangerous cold snaps.

4. Flu cases rise in Louisville as people gather for the holidays (wdrb.com) — Flu cases are climbing in Louisville, with the city health department already logging more than 700 infections since September as holiday gatherings ramp up. Officials urge residents to prioritize sleep, nutrition, exercise and stress management, and say getting a flu shot can lower your chances of catching the virus or lessen how sick you get.

5. DNA breakthrough in 2025 Louisville homicide, LMPD says (whas11.com) — Louisville Metro Police say new DNA evidence has led to a major break in the April 2025 killing of Wayne Woods Sr., who was found shot in a vehicle on West Chestnut Street.
