• Group organizes for east Louisville cemetery maintenance improvements (whas11.com) — Families with loved ones buried at Louisville Cemetery are organizing to demand better maintenance after months of overgrown grass, stalled monument installations, and limited communication from operators. The Louisville Cemetery Improvement Association has formed, while cemetery leadership says on-site staff have been removed, new hires are coming, and full operations should resume around January 20.

• JCPS officer runs into burning apartment building after car crash sparks fire in Louisville (wdrb.com) — A JCPS school resource officer rushed into a burning apartment building in east Louisville after a car crashed into it along Westport Road, likely striking a gas line. Working alongside another officer, he helped ensure residents got out safely, and Louisville Metro Police say everyone inside was evacuated without injuries.

• U.S. Army Corps of Engineers awards construction contract for Phase 2 of Rough River Dam Safety Modification project (dredgewire.com) — A major federal construction contract just went to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Louisville District for Phase 2 of the Rough River Dam safety upgrade, a $655 million effort to reduce downstream flood risk. Louisville-based officials will oversee new outlet works, a cutoff wall, and eventual relocation of Highway 79, with groundbreaking expected in spring 2026 and construction lasting six to seven years.
