UPDATE: Inmate that Escaped in Annapolis Captured in West Baltimore
Veney was serving a five-year sentence for armed robbery, but is considered "minimum security" by a Department of Corrections spokesman.

Updated (8:20 a.m.)—A convict that escaped an Annapolis work detail in Annapolis Tuesday was taken into police custody in West Baltimore Wednesday night, a Department of Corrections spokesman said.
"We've just been informed that Elwood Veney is in custody. Great cooperative effort from local law enforcement partners and DOC to get him back in custody. No further details are available, but most importantly, he is OFF the streets," according to a Facebook post from the Anne Arundel County Police Department.
Elwood Veney escaped custody just after noon Tuesday at a State Highway Administration shop in Annapolis.
Veney, 33, is a native of Baltimore, and was serving a five-year sentence at Jessup Correctional Facility with no parole for robbery with a deadly weapon and firearm possession. His arrest stems from an armed robbery in 2009, according to Maryland court records. He was scheduled for release in 2017.
At approximately 12:50 p.m. Tuesday, Veney was discovered to be missing from a SHA shop on Defense Highway. He was last seen heading in the direction of Generals Highway, toward the Westfield Annapolis mall.
An Anne Arundel County police spokesman told WNAV radio that Veney is considered to be armed and dangerous.
However, Department of Corrections spokesman Mark Vernarelli said only minimum security inmates are considered for these work details, and are screened for selection. Such walk-offs constituted a rare incident, Vernarelli said.
Press releases on the DOC's website indicate there have been three walk-offs this year throughout the state. Veney's is the first this year in Anne Arundel County.
