50-Year Rotarian Honored by Club

Niles joined the club in 1963 and over the past 50 years has served as treasurer and director of the local club.

A 95-year-old Annapolis resident, Nathan "Nate" O. Niles was honored by Annapolis Rotarians for being a 50-year member of the club.

Niles was recognized for his membership at the club's May 2 meeting by its president, Elaine Shanley. 

Niles is a retired U.S. Naval Academy professor of mathematics and an author of mathematical textbooks. He joined the Annapolis Rotary Club in May 1963, and throughout the years, has served as both its treasurer and director. He also oversaw the publishing of the club's weekly newsletter Crablines longer than anyone in the club.

Niles was twice named a Paul Harris Fellow and an annual Sustaining Member. In 2011, he was awarded the club's Unsung Hero Award.
