The Annapolis Maritime Museum raised over $80,000 for its award-winning education programs at the recent 12th Annual Boatyard Beach Bash on September 17th, 2016. Founding Sponsor, Boatyard Bar & Grill, Title Sponsor, Annapolis Subaru, and the event’s Carbon Neutral Sponsor, Hannon Armstrong, were instrumental in a highly successful event that has become a much-anticipated yearly tradition in the Annapolis community and at the Museum’s waterfront property in Eastport.
The 2016 Boatyard Beach Bash included a full slate of world-class musicians, highlighted by several members of Jimmy Buffett’s Coral Reefers Band (Peter Mayer, Brendan Mayer and Doyle Grisham). Other entertainment highlights that wowed the capacity crowd on a beautiful September evening on the Chesapeake Bay waterfront included John Frinzi, Scott Kirby, Aaron Scherz, James “Sunny Jim” White, JD Spradlin from Radio Margaritaville and Tom Corcoran.

While the 12th Annual Boatyard Beach Bash lived up to its reputation as one of the best parties in Annapolis, the event’s roots as a philanthropic and environmentally responsible event remained at the forefront for the over 750 attendees from across the region.
“We are particularly proud that the Boatyard Beach Bash directly supports the Annapolis Maritime Museum’s environmental education programs that serve over 6,000 local students annually, as well as the fact that the event is a zero waste/carbon neutral event. Yes, this is always a great party and a lot of fun, but what makes it truly special is that it’s a party with a shared purpose,” said Dick Franyo, the owner of the Boatyard Bar & Grill and founder of the event.

The proceeds from the Boatyard Beach Bash have raised over $680,000 since 2004, and have enabled the significant growth of the Museum’s award-winning environmental education programs. “Our education programs are pivotal to establishing a connection between the younger generation and the Chesapeake Bay, and it is because of the support of the local community and the annual Boatyard Beach Bash that we are able to offer the majority of these programs for free or at minimal costs to students,” explained Alice Estrada, Annapolis Maritime Museum Executive Director.
In addition to Boatyard Bar & Grill, Annapolis Subaru, and Hannon Armstrong, sponsors for the 2016 Boatyard Beach Bash included: Baltimore Gas & Electric, Maryland Glass & Mirror Company, Hamel Builders, CFG Community Bank, Severn Savings Bank, Sandy Spring Bank, Eastport Shopping Center, George S. Rich Foundation, Annapolis Towne Center, Baldwin Homes, Straughan Environmental, Bluepoint Brewing Company, Westin Annapolis, SpinSheet, Baltimore Sun Media Group, Capital Gazette, and Fox45 Baltimore.
