Annapolis Shootings Hospitalize Man, Damage Property: Police

Shots were fired twice this weekend in Annapolis, police said. One shooting hospitalized a man. The other damaged homes and vehicles.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — Annapolis saw shots fired twice this weekend, city police announced Monday afternoon.

Officers said one shooting hospitalized a man, and the other damaged homes and vehicles. Both incidents happened in Eastport.

“This kind of disregard for the lives of people in our neighborhoods must stop,” Annapolis Police Chief Edward Jackson said in a press release. “No one has invited violent perpetrators to terrorize our communities here in the State’s Capital.”

Man Shot, Hospitalized In Harbour House

Authorities said they were on foot patrol Monday at 4:06 a.m. in the Harbour House neighborhood when they heard what sounded like gunfire.

Police said they searched the area and found a man on the ground behind an apartment building.

The victim was suffering from one gunshot wound to the buttocks, officers said.

Medics took him to shock trauma, authorities said. Police expect him to survive.

Officers said they could not find any suspects in this case.

Gunfire Damages Property On Madison Street

The other report of shots fired came Saturday at 2:55 a.m. in the 1100 block of Madison Street, authorities said.

Police said they found numerous spent shell casings between two buildings.

Officers said they also found five unoccupied vehicles and the windows of two apartments that were struck by gunfire.

Authorities said they couldn't find any victims or suspects.

“Our officers are committed to working hard to protect our communities, but we also need help from those in the community to help us identify criminals carrying and using guns,” Jackson said in the release. “We are evaluating our deployment strategy to be sure that our city is protected from crimes like these. We will continue to do all we can to identify and hold accountable those committing these deadly and reckless crimes.”

The Annapolis Police Department asked anybody with information to call 410-260-3439. Tipsters can also anonymously contact officers at 410-280-CLUE (410-280-2583).

The Metro Crime Stoppers of Maryland offered a cash reward of up to $2,000 for information that leads to an arrest or an indictment on felony charges. The Metro Crime Stoppers is a non-police organization that collects tips and shares them with detectives.
