Changes Afoot Next Season for Annapolis Water Taxi Service

The taxis will be broken down and rebuilt in the down season, and owners are looking at a new fuel source.

As cold weather approaches, the Annapolis Water Taxi service, which ferries nearby residents to downtown Annapolis, is preparing to close shop.

Daily service on the taxi, owned by Watermark, ended over the weekend, and will only be available on weekends through Nov. 3.

“It’s a sure sign that summer is over when daily Water Taxi service stops, boat shows are over, and the cruising boats head south,” said Watermark President Debbie Gosselin.

During the downtime, Gosselin said staff will tear down the taxis and rebuild them for the next season.

"We are currently researching modifying the taxis to use an alternate fuel.  We hope to make an announcement next year.  There is plenty to keep us busy even when the boats aren’t running," she said.

Two boats in the taxi service will operate for the upcoming Tug of War between the Maritime Republic of Eastport and the City of Annapolis scheduled for Nov. 2.

Full Water Taxi schedule, route and fare list are available at www.cruisesonthebay.com. The Water Taxi returns to full service in early Spring 2014.
