Del. Ron George to Make Bid for Governor's Office
George will begin campaigning in June, he said.
Del. Ron George, an Arnold Republican, Monday said he plans to run for Maryland Governor in 2014.
George, 59, who owns Ron George Jewelers in Severna Park and Annapolis, is a two-term Republican serving in the House of Delegates, where he is a member of the Ways and Means Committee.
George told The Capital-Gazette that he would likely formally announce his candidacy in June, but that fundraising for the campaign had already begun.

George has not officially filed.
To date, no other candidates have filed to run for governor though many are expected to declare their candidacy in the coming months.

Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown, a Democrat, recently sent invitations to supporters highlighting a special announcement he plans to make May 10.
On the Republican side, Harford County Executive David Craig and Frederick County Commissioner Blaine Young are expected to announce.
George will have to catch up on fundraising. In January, George reported having slightly more than $21,000 on hand. Craig and Young respectively reported about $202,000 and $342,000 respectively.
On the Democratic side, Brown reported having $1.63 million on hand.
Other Democratic candidates considered interested in the 2014 Democratic nomination for governor include:
- Maryland Attorney General Douglas Gansler—$5.2 million
- Montgomery County Del. Heather Mizeur—$381,000
- Howard County Executive Ken Ulman—$2.1 million
- Rep. Dutch Ruppersberger—no state campaign account.
