Downtown City Ward Gets New Councilman
Joe Budge replaces Dick Israel as the alderman for Ward 1 in the city of Annapolis.

A longtime advocate for downtown Annapolis issues, Joe Budge was recently selected as the new city councilman for Ward 1.
Budge was chosen by the Annapolis Democratic Central Committee on April 30 as the successor to former Alderman Dick Israel, who stepped down from the Ward 1 seat in April because he was relocating to outside the city.
Mayor Josh Cohen said Budge has proven to be a leader in addressing downtown issues in the past, according to a city press release.

”Dick Israel leaves large shoes to fill, but Joe will be able to hit the ground running and continue Dick's legacy of thoughtful and collaborative leadership for Ward One and the city," Cohen said.
Budge said guiding the city through the upcoming City Dock renovation will be his top priority, according to The Capital-Gazette.
