Electronics, Saws Stolen from Vehicles Over Weekend

Police made one arrest in association with thefts from vehicles in Annapolis.

The Annapolis Police Department reported a variety of thefts that occurred during the weekend and an arrest on Friday.

Thefts from vehicles have spiked in the past year, according to statistics reported by The Capital: Police have responded to 104 cases of theft from vehicles since the year began, a 59 percent increase in the same time last year.

On Friday, police arrested Marco Larkins, 25, of Annapolis in connection to items taken from several cars parked on Gentry Court. Police said Larkins was seen pulling car door handles along the street.

When authorities caught up to Larkins, he was arrested for an open alcoholic beverage. Police also found several electronic items that did not belong to him—including a GPS, a digital camera, and other items—that had been stolen from a vehicle left unlocked on Silopanna Road.

Larkins was charged with theft of less than $100 and theft of less than $1,000. Police said he is currently being held at the Jennifer Road Detention Center on $7,500 bond.

Police also reported a theft from a vehicle between Friday and Saturday in the unit block of Janwall Court. Two saws, two drills, a battery charger, flashlight and a Skil brand saw were reportedly taken from a work van. According to a police report, the front passenger side window had been smashed in to gain entry to the vehicle.

A scooter was reported stolen in the 1000 block of Baywind Drive on Saturday. The scooter was described by police as a black, grey and white 2007 Honda Ruckus.

An attempted burglary was reported in the unit block of Melrob Court on Thursday. According to a police statement, the front door of a home's lock and latch were damaged, but it does not appear that the apartment was entered, and nothing appears to be missing.

A burglary in the 1400 block of Tyler Avenue between Friday and Sunday ended with bleach and nail polish being poured over furniture and clothes, police said. The rear door to the residence had been pried open, according to a police report.
