Fire Causes Millions In Damage At County Government Building: Report

A fire caused nearly $6 million in damage at this county government building, officials said.

BROADNECK, MD — A Monday fire at a county government building caused $5.7 million in damage in Broadneck, officials said.

Firefighters said nobody was hurt in the blaze at the Anne Arundel County Traffic Maintenance building, owned by the Department of Public Works. The building was closed and nobody was inside.

The cause and area of origin are still under investigation.

A Maryland Transportation Authority representative in the area called 911 at 12:13 a.m. to report the fire at 409 Broadneck Road, a press release said.

Crews said they arrived at the 10,500-square-foot, one-story building and found heavy fire with flames coming through the roof.

Sixty-two firefighters said they controlled the blaze in about 1.5 hours.
