Child Hit By Bus In Annapolis, Flown To Hospital: Officials

ANNAPOLIS, MD — A bus hit a 9-year-old girl Wednesday in Annapolis, city officials said. The city expects her to survive, but she was flown to a hospital for treatment.

The collision happened around 6:30 p.m. in front of the Eastport Shopping Center, the office of Mayor Gavin Buckley said.

The mayor's office said the Annapolis Transit red route bus was traveling from Madison Street onto northbound Bay Ridge Avenue.

The bus was at a traffic light and started to make the turn when the signal turned green, officials said.

The mayor's office said the bus hit the pedestrian while she was in the crosswalk.

The city did not mention if the girl had the walk signal at the intersection.

The driver was placed on administrative leave pending an investigation, Annapolis Transportation Director Markus Moore said.

Moore said he ordered the driver to undergo drug and alcohol testing in accordance with city protocol.

There were no passengers aboard the 30-foot Gillig bus when the collision happened, officials said.

The city did not identify the girl or the accused bus driver.
