Green Restaurant Week Sprouts in Annapolis Region
The City and Anne Arundel County encourage residents to dine at an eco-friendly business March 16-20.

Green Restaurant Week -- which refers to the method of food production and restaurant service, not the menu items -- will be held from March 16-20 in the county.
Anne Arundel County Executive Steve Schuh and City of Annapolis Mayor Mike Pantelides announced the upcoming event, which encourages residents to visit local restaurants certified by the Annapolis and Anne Arundel County Environmental Stewardship Program. These businesses are recognized to use locally grown products, implement systems or processes that improve energy efficiency and conserve water, and offer instruction on sustainable practices as identified by the program.
In March of 2013, the city and county first worked together to educate local restaurants on environmentally friendly practices, emphasizing the incorporation of locally sourced food into their menus and commercial composting. Under the program, businesses earn points from a checklist of categories. Certified businesses are recognized on the program’s website and given a certificate and decal to display onsite.

“We hope that you will join us and celebrate the efforts of these Environmental Stewards during Green Restaurant Week,” Mayor Pantelides said. “They are providing some of the best dining options in the area, while going the extra mile to protect our environment.”
