MD Heat Wave: Dangerous Triple-Digit Conditions Continue

It could feel like 110 degrees soon in Maryland. When will it cool down? Here's the heat wave forecast.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — The Maryland heat wave is expected to continue for at least a few more days.

Heat advisories were issued for Tuesday and Wednesday with real-feel temperatures soaring over 100 degrees.

Friday is the first day expected to be below 90 degrees, but its high of 87 degrees won't be much of a break from the heat. The highs return to the 90s Saturday through Monday.

"Much above average temperatures [are] also likely to remain in place along much of the east over the next few days," the National Weather Service said in a forecast discussion. "While there is not forecast to be many record high temperatures across the East over the next few days, numerous record high minimum temperatures are likely from the eastern Gulf coast, through the Southeast, Mid-Atlantic and into southern New England."

AccuWeather predicted these real-feel temperatures over the next week at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport:

  • Tuesday: 106 degrees
  • Wednesday: 105 degrees
  • Thursday: 96 degrees
  • Friday: 90 degrees
  • Saturday: 99 degrees
  • Sunday: 103 degrees
  • Monday: 105 degrees

The Baltimore City Health Department extended its Code Red Extreme Heat Alert through Thursday.

That means Baltimore's cooling centers will open and city pools will have extended hours, WBAL reported. The station said city park and neighborhood pools will be open from noon to 2 p.m., 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m.

The heat is also affecting fishers. Maryland Fishing and Boating Services asked anglers to avoid trout fishing until the weather improves. The cold-water streams are heating to levels that are stressful for trout.
