UPDATE: Police Respond to Fight at Annapolis High, Student Charged

Four officers were called in after a report of two students fighting and one was charged.

UPDATE (2:45 p.m.)—Anne Arundel County police responded to the cafeteria at Annapolis High Tuesday morning following a report of a fight involving students, a schools spokesman said.

Four officers responded to the scene shortly after 7 a.m., Anne Arundel County Public Schools spokesman Bob Mosier said. They were called as a precaution due to the number of people in the cafeteria at the time the fight occurred. However, only two students were involved in the fight, Mosier said, and the incident was brought under control quickly. Classes at the high school started on time.

Police later said that one of the students—a juvenile who was the aggressor—was charged with assault, resisting arrest, disrupting school activities and disorderly conduct.

Mosier said this incident appears to have stemmed from a confrontation or argument that started in one of the communities Monday night.

This latest fight comes after an incident at the school last month where seven students were charged in a brawl in the cafeteria.

Annapolis High has more reported incidents of fighting than any other public high school in the county, according to statistics compiled by the Capital-Gazette.

However, the number of incident referrals for fighting appears to be on the decline at the school and countywide.

There were 93 referrals for fighting during the 2011-12 school year at Annapolis High, but there were just 54 this school year through April 2, the Capital-Gazette reported.
