Man Frustrated By Speeding Points Shotgun At Driver: Annapolis Police

A man upset by speeding pointed a shotgun at a driver, police said, noting that residents should never "take matters into their own hands."

ANNAPOLIS, MD — A man frustrated by speeding was arrested and accused of pointing a shotgun at a passing driver on Bembe Beach Road recently in Annapolis, police said.

Officers said they arrested 66-year-old Wayne Scott Williams of Annapolis last Thursday morning.

Williams did not fire the gun. He's only accused of pointing it.

"Mr. Williams was upset about speeding in the neighborhood and pointed the shotgun at a passing motorist," the Annapolis Police Department said in a press release. "He was taken into custody without incident."

  • First-degree assault (Felony)
  • Second-degree assault (Misdemeanor)
  • Firearm use in a felonious violent crime (Misdemeanor)
  • Reckless endangerment (Misdemeanor)

Williams was released on recognizance last Thursday, his file says.

Annapolis Police Patrol Commander Captain Justin Klinedinst said the department has received many complaints about speeding over the past few years.

"Each complaint has been addressed through visible enforcement and/or variable message signs," the press release said. "Captain Klinedinst reminds the public to allow the police to address their concerns and not take matters into their own hands."
