In the company of their closest friends and family, more than 1,200 civilians swore their oaths and officially became plebes on Thursday.
Just after the induction ceremony at the US Naval Academy, newly inducted plebes greeted their families and friends with shorn hair and new uniforms.
It's the start of plebe summer, and these were the last moments the families will be able to meet with their sons and daughters until August.
