○ Accomplishment: Jacob is the 2010 grand prize winner for the Washington, D.C. region for a scholarship competition through Junior Achievement of the National Capital Area, Inc. Students were prompted to write an essay about what the Washington area’s business community can learn from high school students. Jacob’s essay, entitled “All I Really Needed to Know about Business, I Learned in High School,” won him $20,0000 in scholarship money. The essay focused on technology trends.

○ Key to Awesomeness: Since a young age, Jacob has been a go-getter interested in giving back to his community, according to his mom, Jodie. As a middle-schooler, he organized a wristband drive to support victims of the Asian tsunami.

When it comes to winning the essay contest, Jacob saw an opportunity to write about technology that’s used every day by teens and the benefit those skills can have in the business community. “I think it was very well written, creative, and interesting to read,” Jodie tells Patch.
