Wisconsin Avenue Landmark, Eastham’s Exxon, to Close

Nine-story, 145-unit residential building planned for site, The Gazette reports.

Wisconsin Avenue landmark Eastham’s Exxon Servicenter will hang up its gas pumps for good Sept. 30, The Gazette reports.

Washington Property Company hopes to construct a nine-story, 145-unit residential building at the site, and plans are set to go before the Montgomery County Planning Board Nov. 1, The Gazette reports.

The station, located at 7100 Wisconsin Avenue, has been operated by the Eastham family since 1929 and has won numerous customer service awards, according to the report.

State Sen. Brian E. Frosh (D-Dist. 16) described the station as a Bethesda “institution.”

“It’s the best service station I’ve ever been to,” he told The Gazette. “They’re honest, they’re quick, and their work is superb.”
