House Fire Kills 1, Displaces 3 In Bladensburg

A deadly house fire broke out Wednesday afternoon in Bladensburg. One woman died, another managed to escape and 3 people were displaced.

BLADENSBURG, MD — A woman has died in a house fire that broke out shortly after 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The incident happened at a two-story, single-family home located in the 5200 block of Varnum St. By the time firefighters arrived, the fire had quickly spread. After attacking the fire from the inside of the home, firefighters then found one woman dead. A second person was able to escape the home when the fire broke out, according to the Prince George's County Fire and EMS Department.

Three people have been displaced and the identities of the involved individuals have not been released yet by officials. The fire is being investigated.

After the incident, crews from PGFD Station 1/Hyattsville & Station 12/College Park walked around the neighborhood surrounding the house fire. Emergency workers held safety talks with residents in 20 homes and installed one smoke alarm. They left safety information in the mailboxes of 33 homes.
