$50K Powerball Win Celebrated By Man Who Used Family Birthdates

A social worker from Lanham has won $50K playing Powerball and using family birthdates for his numbers.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — A Lanham man who stopped by the gas station to fuel up and grab a Powerball ticket using family birthdates and years for his numbers has won $50,000.

“I recognized the numbers immediately when I checked the results online,” said the Prince George’s County social worker. “It was such a shock. I called my wife to tell her. She had to sit down to keep from falling. I do my best to have a ticket for every Powerball drawing, but I hadn’t yet gotten any when I stopped at the gas station. I sure am glad it occurred to me to buy my ticket then. I might not have remembered to get one before that night’s drawing.”

The winner plans to use his Powerball winnings to pay down his mortgage, he told Maryland Lottery officials.
