Alsobrooks Steps Down, Acting County Executive Steps In
Former Prince George's County Executive Angela D. Alsobrooks has resigned from office to become a U.S. Senator. Who will replace her?

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — In order to begin her new role as U.S. Senator for the state of Maryland, former Prince George's County Executive Angela D. Alsobrooks has had to resign from her role. But how will her seat be filled?
Pursuant to the County Charter, current county chief administrative officer Tara Jackson will now become the acting county executive.
"I may be new to the position of county executive, but I have a longstanding dedication to this county. I have been in public service for almost 20 years and I have always had one focus: to do the right thing. I’ve been committed to leading with principle, serving with integrity and operating in a way that maximizes community impact," Jackson said.

Jackson's background includes graduating from the University of Maryland School of Law. She started her career as a line prosecutor in the State's Attorney's Office then switched to private practice. Eventually, Jackson returned to the State Attorney’s Office to work as principal deputy state's attorney and deputy county attorney. She also worked as deputy chief administrative officer under Alsobrooks, and as a special advisor to her.
"I had opportunities to empower others that had the same spirit of service. Bringing together people with shared goals kept our county grounded through challenging times, such as when we faced the COVID-19 pandemic. I can tell you it helped guide me in the face of the unprecedented as I led efforts to transition our county workforce to remote operations, establish vaccination centers and manage federal relief funds with fiscal responsibility," Jackson said in a statement.
