Bowie BizBus Now in Service

The city funded shuttle will transport workers from the Northview park and ride to Melford, and to the Bowie Town Center during lunch time hours.

Transportation between Melford the Northview park and ride and the Bowie Town Center got a little easier last week with the city's launch of the Bowie BizBus.

The BizBus is a free circulator bus funded by the city as part of a deal to keep about 700 jobs local. Inovalon, one of Bowie's largest employers, renewed its lease to stay in Bowie last year. A circulator bus was part of a deal the city made with the company to keep them from relocating.

Although the city-funded bus service was implemented specifically to keep Inovalon in the city, it will be available to all people working in the Melford office park.

The BizBus will stop in four main locations:

  • The Bowie Park an ride lot on Northview Drive;
  • Inovalon headquarters, at 4391 Collington Road
  • Three stops in Melford business park three different stops, as shown on this schedule
  • The Bowie Town Center, near the central fountain
The BizBus will go from the park-and-ride on Northview Drive to the satellite office in Melford on a continuous loop from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.  A second bus will run the loop from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to allow for increased lunchtime usage.

City staff is also working on implementing a real-time information system, that would show the current location of the bus and predict times it should reach each stop, according to the city's website. The city hopes to have that system online in the next 30 days.
