D.C. Man Charged In Death Of 1-Year-Old Upper Marlboro Girl Found In Cardiac Arrest

A Washington, D.C., man has been charged in connection to the death of a 1-year-old Upper Marlboro girl found in cardiac arrest last fall.

UPPER MARLBORO, MD — An arrest has been made in the death of a 1-year-old Upper Marlboro girl who was found in cardiac arrest in a Washington, D.C., home last fall.

Metropolitan police officers were called to a home located in the 3700 block of Connecticut Avenue, Northwest, on Sept. 28, 2024, around 10:49 p.m. for a report of a child in cardiac arrest. They found 1-year-old Journee Moore in distress. She was taken by ambulance to Children's National Hospitalwhere she was pronounced dead, according to Metropolitan Police.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the District of Columbia ruled that Journee had suffered multiple blunt force injuries and the manner of death was ruled a homicide. On May 8, detectives with the MPD's special victims unit arrested 24-year-old Wayne Blake of Northwest D.C. and charged him with first-degree murder - felony murder and cruelty to children, the police department announced.
