Extra Mosquito Spraying Planned For Prince George's County Wednesday
Due to a concern for mosquito-borne diseases, there will be an additional spraying for mosquitoes Wednesday night, officials stated.
PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — The state department of agriculture will spray for mosquitoes Wednesday night after 7:30 p.m. out of concern for the potential for mosquito-borne diseases in the area.
Ultra-low volume truck-based spraying to control adult mosquitoes will be carried out Wednesday night within a three-fourths of a mile radius at the following intersections:
- Longfellow Street and Tanglewood Road, Riverdale Park
- Back loop of S. Ora Court, Greenbelt
In the event of inclement weather, spraying will be rescheduled for the next available evening. Any existing spray exemptions in the area will be temporarily suspended.

The Maryland Department of Agriculture's Mosquito Control Program personnel will use a permethrin-based solution that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has approved for use in public health mosquito control programs without posing unreasonable risks to human health, the state noted.
However, out of an abundance of caution, the MDA recommends avoiding outdoor activities during spraying.

While not all mosquitoes carry diseases, the MDA suggests that residents take precautions to minimize their exposure to mosquito bites. These measures include:
- Wear long, loose fitting, light colored clothing
- Wear insect repellents according to product labels
- Install, inspect and repair window and door screens in homes and stables
- Regularly clean bird baths and bowls for pet food and water
- Remove or empty all water-holding containers
