GLENARDEN, MD — A former aide at a Prince George's County elementary school was sentenced Monday to 75 years in prison after pleading guilty to over a dozen counts of sexual exploitation and child pornography charges.
Deonte Carraway, 23, of Glenarden pleaded guilty in January, 2017 to 15 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor to produce child pornography, involving 12 victims ranging in age from nine to 13 years old, prosecutors said.
Carraway was a paid assistant at Judge Sylvania Woods Elementary School during the 2014-2015 school year, and was a volunteer teacher’s assistant from September 2015 to February 2016. He was also the director for the Glenarden Voices of Youth Choir.

Aditionally, Carraway reached out to minor males and encouraged them to send him images and videos of children engaged in sexually explicit conduct, prosecutors said. He also sent explicit content to children via his cell phone.
On February 4, 2016, a victim's relative called police after they discovered a nude photo on a 9-year-old boy's cell phone, police said. Carraway allegedly sent the boy a photo through the "Kik" messenger app. Carraway was arrested by Prince George's County Police on Feb. 5.
Prosecutors say Carraway also admitted to starting a club with children and said children who wanted to join the club must send him sexually explicit images of themselves via cell phone messenger applications.

“Carraway violated the public’s trust by putting himself in a position to harm children. One of the worst crimes a person can commit is when the victim is an innocent child,” Prince George’s County Police Chief Hank P. Stawinski said in a statement.
Brian Jones, the principal of Judge Sylvania Woods Elementary School, was placed on administrative leave as police and school officials investigated the claim.
“Carraway’s abuse was common knowledge among students at Sylvania Woods,” WTOP reports the lawsuit says.
Police believe sex abuse and/or child pornography was also produced by Carraway at the Glenarden Municipal Center, Theresa Banks Memorial Aquatic Center and in private homes. Police also learned Carraway abused a child at Zion Praise Tabernacle Lutheran Church in Bowie.
