Homeowner Fatally Shoots Man Breaking Into His Car: Police

Police are investigating after a homeowner fatally shot a man he caught breaking into his car in Prince George's County, police said.

CHILLUM, MD — A homeowner fatally shot a man he caught breaking into his car in Chillum, police said.

Deontae Parker, 32, of no fixed address was shot and killed at about 2:15 a.m. Dec. 26. The incident occurred in the 6200 block of Sligo Parkway.

At this time detectives believe the homeowner shot Parker from inside his home after he discovered Parker breaking into his car. Police have recovered video from the home’s surveillance system which shows Parker’s actions prior to the shooting, police said.

The handgun used in the shooting was recovered from the homeowner. Police believe an additional suspect fled the scene prior to officers arriving.

Detectives are investigating whether the homeowner’s actions were justified, police said. Detectives are in consultation with the State's Attorney's Office regarding any potential criminal charges in this case.
