How Bowie Residents Can Help Hurricane Harvey Victims
Residents can drop off spare change at local banks, which will be sent to flood victims, or donate items to Houston police officers.

BOWIE, MD — Tropical Storm Harvey is winding down, but as floodwaters recede in some areas, fresh horrors emerge. The powerful weather system, which dumped historic amounts of rain on Houston and the surrounding area, has killed at least 39. The City of Bowie is organizing two ways for residents to help the victims of Hurricane Harvey. Residents can drop off spare change at local banks, which will be sent to flood victims, or donate items to Houston police officers.
From 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., employees from local banks and City officials will collect pocket change in the lobby at City Hall. Residents are invited to stop by and drop off their spare change in a provided bin.
Donors can also drop off coins/cash at the Finance Department window at City Hall on Thursday and Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. The proceeds will be sent to the Greater Houston Community Foundation’s Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund.

Bowie Police are also collecting items to help out their fellow officers in Houston. Suggested donations include new t-shirts, socks, underwear, toiletries and individually packaged snacks and drinks.
These items can be dropped off at the Police Department anytime between now and Sunday, Sept. 2 at 5 p.m. The Police Department is open 24-hours a day and is located on the lowest level of City Hall.
