BRANDYWINE, MD -- New details have emerged about the accidental shooting at a holiday party that led to 11 officers being suspended, and Prince George's County Police Chief Hank Stawinski condemned the "jackassery" that led to the incident.

Eight police officers have been released from suspension after the weapon discharge at a holiday gathering of off-duty PGPD officers that left two injured, according to a statement from the police department.

"I was relieved when it was confirmed that neither of the officer’s injuries was serious, but I was and remain disappointed in the jackassery that led to this incident which has negatively impacted the injured and involved officers, their families, and our community," Stawinski said in the statement.

Eleven officers were initially suspended after the Dec. 15 incident, when an officer handling a privately-owned weapon accidentally shot it, striking himself in the hand and hitting another officer in the room with the ricochet.

"The Special Investigation Response Team of our Internal Affairs Division is still conducting interviews as the process continues to move forward, however, at this point in the investigation, it appears that the gun was fired one time by accident with no ill intent," the statement reads.
