Prince George's County Public Schools implemented the required clear bags this school year at all high schools and at non-traditional program north, south and middle. Clear backpacks are optional for sixth through eighth graders. In July 2023, school leaders announced that metal detectors would be installed at Prince George's County high schools in an attempt to eliminate students bringing guns into buildings and clear backpacks required. PGCPS Superintendent Millard House II said at the time that he had implemented similar safety measures at school districts where he was a leader in Texas and North Carolina.
