FORT WASHINGTON, MD — A Fort Washington man has been arrested as part of a sting after an undercover police officer posed as a teenage boy who was interested in having sex with the suspect. The two communicated via a smartphone app.According to a preliminary investigation, Santos Carranza, 47, of Fort Washington was involved in an inappropriate text chat Dec. 11 with someone he believed was an underage boy. Instead, he was chatting with a police officer posing as a 15-year-old boy, according to Maryland State Police. Carranza arrived at a shopping center in Beltsville to meet with the 15-year-old boy but instead was met by the Maryland State Police, the Prince George's County Police Department and U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Carranza was arrested at the scene.Carranza has been charged with one count of sexual solicitation of a minor and one count of second-degree attempted rape.
