PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD -- Memorial Day is a day to honor and remember the servicemen and women who have given their lives for their county. It also marks the unofficial start of summer, with many pools and beaches opening on Memorial Day weekend. However, since it is a national holiday, schools and government offices will be closed on Monday, May 27.

Here's a roundup of what's closed and what's open in Prince George's County on Memorial Day.

Schools: Closed

Government offices: Closed

Metro: The system will open at 8 a.m. and close at 11 p.m., and trains will operate on a Sunday schedule. Off-peak fares will be in effect throughout the day, and parking at Metrorail facilities is free. Keep in mind that six Blue and Yellow line stations south of Reagan National Airport will be closed for station improvements, and those stations won't reopen until Sept. 8.

Additional closures, according to Prince George's County:

TheBus, a public transit service operated by the Prince George’s County Department of Public Works and Transportation (DPW&T), will not operate on Monday, May 27, 2019. Regular operations of TheBus will resume on Tuesday, May 28, 2019. In addition, the County’s Call-A-Bus service, including dialysis transportation, will not operate on Monday, May 27, 2019. Regular operations of the Call-A-Bus services will resume on Tuesday, May 28, 2019.

The Prince George’s County Department of Permitting, Inspections, and Enforcement (DPIE) will be closed on Monday, May 27, 2019. Regular business hours will resume on Tuesday, May 28, 2019.

Also, Prince George’s CountyClick 3-1-1 will be closed on Monday, May 27, 2019 and will resume regular operations on Tuesday, May 28, 2019; 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. However, residents can still submit service/issue requests online at www.countyclick311.com/.

Several businesses and restaurants will remain open on Memorial Day, although some may have limited hours due to the holiday. If you are heading out, you may want to call the business and check their hours for Monday. Some businesses will be offering discounts to veterans or active-duty military, so if you've served, bring your military ID with you.
