PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD -- With Christmas over with, everyone is looking ahead to the New Year. And with New Year's Day falling on a Tuesday this year, that means plenty of confusion over what is open and what is closed in the Prince George's County area.

We have a quick breakdown of what you can expect this week:

Government offices: Government offices will be closed on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.

Schools: Schools are still on the winter break, which will last through New Year's Day.

Libraries: All libraries will be closed New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.

New Year's Eve
  • Metrorail system will open at 5 a.m. with special late night service until 2 a.m. (early New Year's Day) on a regular weekday schedule
  • Metrobus will operate on a regular schedule
  • MetroAccess subscription trips have been cancelled
  • Regular fares and parking fees will be in effect
  • No scheduled track work
Tuesday, January 1
New Year's Day

  • Metrorail system will operate 8 a.m. until 11 p.m. on a Sunday schedule
  • Metrobus will operate on a Sunday schedule
  • MetroAccess subscription trips have been cancelled
  • Off-peak fares will be in effect and parking will be free at all Metro-operated facilities
  • No scheduled track work
