Prince George County Recreation Announces Summer Concerts, Performances

The community is invited to grab its blankets and lawn chairs, pack a picnic dinner and bring their families to enjoy the summertime.

The parks are alive with the sounds of music and drama. Enjoy a variety of summer evening concerts including, jazz, rock ‘n roll, country, soul, hip-hop and blues music at parks throughout Prince George’s County. Grab a blanket or lawn chairs, pack a picnic dinner, and bring your family and friends to relax and enjoy hot fun in the summertime!

The lineup for Arts at the Waterfront, held at Bladensburg Waterfront Park in Bladensburg, is as followed: The Brian Cunningham Project with jazz and R&B (Sunday, July 3 from 6-7:30 p.m.), Dr. S.O. Feelgood Music Man with blues and soul (Sunday, July 10 from 6–7:30 p.m.), The educational Uncle Devin Show for children and family (Sunday, July 17 from 6–7:30 p.m.), U.S. Navy Band, County Current with country and bluegrass (Sunday, July 24 from 6–7:30 p.m.) and Trio Caliente with Latin and Flamenco (Sunday, July 31 from 6–7:30 p.m.).

The lineup for Concerts in the Park! On the Green at Watkins Regional Park in Upper Marlboro is as followed: Joe Falero & the DC Latin All Stars (Thursday, June 23 from 7 – 8:30 p.m.), Vinyl Groove with R&B dance music from the 1970s, including Motown, Philly and classic disco (Thursday, June 30 from 7-8:30 p.m.), jazz vocalist Coniece Washington (Thursday, July 7 from 7– 8:30 p.m.), Shakespeare in the Park presents Twelfth Night (Thursday, July 14 from 7:30–9:30 p.m.), Kelly Bell Band (Thursday, July 21 from 7–8:30 p.m.), Baltimore-based Junyard Saints with New Orleans-style party music, blending funk and swing with Latin and R&B and a splash of zydeco (Thursday, July 28 from 7–8:30 p.m.) and roots rock, blues and old-school R&B with Moonshine Society (Thursday, Aug. 4 from 7–8:30 p.m.).

“If music be the food of love, play on,” says Duke Orsino in Shakespeare’s "Twelfth Night." Shipwrecks, mistaken identity and a character by the name of Sir Toby Belch round out the adventure, one of Shakespeare’s most beloved comedies. Relax under the stars and enjoy Shakespeare’s poetry and song with your family. Bring your lawn chair, and enjoy a free performance in your favorite park. F

Performances are as followed: Magruder Park in Hyattsville (Thursday, July 7 and Friday, July 8 at 7:30 p.m.) with a rain location of the city's multipurpose room, Hillcrest Heights Community Center in Temple Hills (Saturday, July 9 at 7:30 p.m.) with a rain location of the community center gym, Bowie Center for the Perfoming Arts in Bowie (Sunday, July 10 at 3 p.m.), Riversdale House Museum in Riverdale (Wednesday, July 13 at 7:30 p.m.) with a rain location of Riverdale Elementary School, Watkins Regional Park in Upper Marlboro (Thursday, July 14 at 7:30 p.m.) with a rain location of Largo/Kettering/Perrywood Community Center in Upper Marlboro, Montpelier Mansion Grounds in Laurel (Friday, July 15 at 7:30 p.m.) with a rain location of Deerfield Run Community Center, Fairwood Community Park in Bowie (Saturday, July 16 at 7:30 p.m.) with a rain location of Glenn Dale Community Center in Glenn Dale and the Arts/Harmony Hall Regional Center in Fort Washington (Sunday, July 17 at 3 p.m.), interpreted for the hearing impaired.

Jazz on the Lawn performances, held at the Riversdale House Museum in Diverdale Park, are as followed: Daraha Ensemble (Wednesday, June 22 at 7 p.m.), Seth Kibel Quartet (Wednesday, July 6 at 7 p.m.), Stacy Brooks Quintet (Wednesday, Aug. 3 at 7 p.m.) and Gina de Simone and the Moaners (Wednesday, Aug. 17 at 7 p.m.).

The Summer Concerts at Fairwood Community Park series, held in Bowie, will take place as followed: Let It Flow Band (Sunday, June 12 at 7:30 p.m.), Twelfth Night (Saturday, July 16 at 7:30 p.m.) and David Bach and Band (Sunday, AUg. 14 at 7:30 p.m.).

Performances for Jazz at Lake Artemesia, held in Berwyn Heights with a rain location of the Berwyn Heights Senior Center, will take place Thursday, July 7 from 6-8 p.m. The Susan Jones Jazz Quartet, featuring Jan Knutson, features swinging jazz violin music peppered with a Latin flavor, along with grooving guitar, bass and drums. Also featured will be 17-year old guitar phenomena Jan Knutson.

The 38th, annual Montpelier Summer Concert Series, held in Laurel, will take place as followed: Gary and the Groove (Friday, June 24 from 7:30-9:30 p.m.), Split2nd Band (Friday, July 8 from 7:30-9:30 p.m.), Twelfth Night (Friday, July 15 from 7:30-9:30 p.m.), BlueTrain (Friday, July 22 from 7:30-9:30 p.m.) and The Winstons with Motown, oldies and soul (Friday, Aug. 5 from 7:30-9:30 p.m.).

The Beltsville Community Center Summer Concerts, held in Beltsville, will take place as followed: The NoWhere Men (Saturday, June 25 at 7 p.m.) with Motown sounds that channel the horn bands of the 1960s and 1970s from Earth, Wind, & Fire, The Four Tops, Chicago and Stevie Wonder and The New Romanos (Saturday, July 16 at 7 p.m.) mixing the songs you grew up dancing to with today’s hits.

The Oxon Hill Manor’s Summer Concert Series, held in Oxon Hill, will take place as followed: summer jazz for individuals at least 18 years of age on Tuesday, July 12 from 6:30-9 p.m. and reggae and rum on Tuesday, Aug. 16 from 6:30-9 p.m. for individuals at least 21 years of age. The cost to attend is $5 and $10, respectively.
