Suspect In Child's Fatal July 4 Shooting Arrested In South America: PGPD
The suspect wanted for a 6-year-old's fatal shooting on the Fourth of July has been arrested in Guyana and deported to the U.S.
PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — The suspect wanted by police for the fatal Fourth of July shooting of 6-year-old Ahsan Payton has been arrested.
Prince George's Police were called to the 4500 block of Akron Street around 7:50 p.m. on Independence Day. They found Ahsan Payton of Washington, D.C., with a gunshot wound. The 6-year-old boy was taken to the hospital in critical condition and died late Saturday night, police reported. The preliminary investigation revealed the shooting took place during a July 4 holiday gathering in the neighborhood.
A man was injured in the shooting but those injuries weren't considered life-threatening. A woman was treated on the scene for a graze wound, police said.

Detectives identified 33-year-old Rakeem Gilgeours as the shooter in the incident. He was tracked to Guyana and taken into custody by the Criminal Investigation Department and the Special Branch of the Guyana Police Department. Gilgeours was deported back to the United States and has been charged with second-degree murder and related charges. He is currently detained in the state of Florida awaiting extradition.
