What's Open, Closed For New Year's Day 2026 In Bowie, Prince George's County

BOWIE, MD — New Year’s Day is one of several holidays that usually affect the hours of government offices, libraries, public transportation, garbage pickup and other services in Bowie and across Prince George's County.

State, county and local offices, and courts will be closed for the holiday with the exception of public safety agencies. Other closures and changes in service are:

• Animal Services Facility & Adoption Center (3750 Brown Station Road)
• Brown Station Road Sanitary Landfill
• Brown Station Road Public Convenience Drop-off Center
• Electronics Recycling Acceptance Site (located at the Brown Station Road Sanitary Landfill)
• Household Hazardous Waste Acceptance Site (located at the Brown Station Road Sanitary Landfill
• Missouri Avenue Solid Waste Acceptance and Recycling Drop-off Center
• Prince George’s County Materials Recycling Facility (1000 Ritchie Road)
• Prince George’s County Organics Composting Facility
• Bulky trash collection will resume Tuesday (white goods/appliances and scrap tires by appointment only)
• Trash collection in county-contracted areas will shift one day so Thursday's collection will move to Friday and so on
• Curbside bulky trash collection will shift one day so Thursday's collection will move to Friday and so on
• Curbside recycling collection will shift one day so Thursday's collection will move to Friday and so on

The Prince George's County Memorial Library System will be closed New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, with some branches closed for additional days.

TheBus, a public transit service operated by the Prince George’s County Department of Public Works and Transportation (DPW&T), will not operate on the holiday. Regular operations of TheBus resume the day after the holiday. The county’s Call-A-Bus and PGC Link services, including dialysis transportation, will not operate on the holiday. Regular operations of the county’s Call-A-Bus and PGC Link services resume on the day after.

PGC311 will be closed New Year's Day. However, residents can still submit service/issue requests online at www.countyclick311.com.

Prince George's County Public Schools students and staff return to class Jan. 5.
