Woman Fatally Hit On I-495 While Fleeing Police After Crashing Carjacked Vehicle
A woman was fatally hit by passing vehicles as she crossed I-495 while running from police after she crashed a carjacked vehicle, MSP says.
OXON HILL, MD — A woman attempting to escape police officers after crashing a carjacked vehicle was fatally hit Saturday night while running across I-495, authorities said.
According to law enforcement, police officers found a car that had been stolen in a carjacking earlier in the day in the parking lot of a business in the 6000 block of Oxon Hill Road. They then saw a woman get into the vehicle and drive away shortly before 8 p.m.
Officers with Prince George’s County Police, Forest Heights Police and Edmonston Police departments attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver refused to stop and crashed the vehicle in that same parking lot. She then hopped out of the vehicle and attempted to run across I-495 on foot. That's when she was hit by two vehicles traveling on I-495, according to state officials.
