PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — An 84-year-old woman died in an Oxon Hill townhouse fire and three firefighters were injured in a College Park house fire Tuesday.

The townhouse fire broke out around 6:54 p.m. along Brandyhall Court in Oxon Hill. Prince George's firefighters arrived on the scene to find flames shooting out from the second floor of a 3-story middle-of-the-row townhouse. While checking the structure after the fire, they determined the fire started in a bedroom where the woman was found and pronounced dead, according to the Prince George's County Fire Department. The fire is being investigated.

The single-family home located in the 9500 block of 49th Place in College Park caught fire around 1:04 p.m. When firefighters arrived, the fire was "well advanced," the department stated. The fire was successfully extinguished but three firefighters suffered minor injuries. They were treated at the hospital and released. A husband, wife and their two nephews were able to escape the burning home. PGFD spokesperson Alan Doubleday told DC News Now that lithium batteries charging inside the house to power the family’s Electric motorcycle-styled scooter are to blame for sparking the fire.
